Hi Chin, whether your assets go to the government depends on whether you have any beneficiary. You may not have immediate family like children, spouse or parents, but uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews all come into the picture.
If I have lots of cash in the bank, and a house and car, etc, which are all under my own name, and I have father, mother, 2 sisters, 2 brothers, will it really cause problem if I die without a will? Is a will really important to have? Secondly, can I write my own will, instead of through a legal will firm?
Assuming you are not married, without a Will, your assets will eventually go to your parents. However , it will take much longer, cost more in legal fees & create more headache for your family.
If you want to save the time and trouble, a will is important to have. You can write you will instead going through a will writer like us or a lawyer, but not really recommended unless you know what you are doing. The reasons are here http://vitalwills.com/writing-a-will-should-i-do-it-myself/

What happens if a person die without a will? Would the asset go to the government?
