Family Tussle

Recently a prospective customer contacted us to write his Will. We met him to do our normal presentation so he understands thoroughly what is required to have a Will written. After a short presentation, he told us his family story and why he wanted to write a Will, since he is still relatively young.
Apparently, the great grandfather has a well known pastry business and died without a Will. The business is still on going today and has been passed down through the generations. The family business is quite a lucrative one as they have built up their reputation and brand name over many years.
What happened was when it came to his father’s generations, differences of opinion arose about who owns what. They have a falling out with one another and their side of the family got the short end of the stick. His uncles managed to wrest control of most of the properties including shoplots, properties as well as the family business. Due to the family tussle, the family is not on speaking terms with one another. And our customer have to start from scratch while the father has reached retirement age.
This illustrates why it is so important to have a Will done. It is somewhat fortunate that our customer is at an age where he can work and have gotten the skills to start over. It could have been a worse scenario if he is still too young to work and his father is too old to start over.
PS – We deliberately left out putting any names here to protect the privacy of the customers while still ensuring the lesson is not lost on others in similar situation.
